in short - if a player was inactive for more than 30 days, the active player with a duplicate name gets priority. 

if 2 active players share a name, the one whos made his character/family/guild closer to release gets priority. Meaning, if a day 3 player xbox and a day 1 PlayStation share a name the PlayStation player gets priority.

In my opinion its a much more equal solution to the issue even though some people might still be effected, i hope everyone will be satisfied with the results after the patch next week.

Got this thing on my mind and im sure im not the only one..

I followed bdo on console since its announcement in 2017 E3, Forum launch at March 2018 followed by discord and the release in March 2019.

Through out this entire time and before on other games on console ive been known as 'Dr Inferno' (with a small mishap on forums lmao). In game im mostly referred to as simply "Doc" , "Doctor" being the name of my main character.

I've thought about the family name and most of my characters names mid 2018 where i had a big plan on what characters should i have, where to place them, which roles they have and what their NAMES should be.

Early access 28th feb 2019 i finally logged in as soon as the servers were up. I was thrilled to have coined the family name "Inferno" and my main character "Doctor", Sadly the name "Guts" (berserk reference) was taken a minute later when i made my warrior lol.

"Doctor" is my absolute main. Meaning Hes my lifeskiller, grinder, pvp-er (bad one) and has all the p2w stuff i deemed necessary to have on a main aka max weight, inventory, earrings, lucky underwear, lifeskill costumes and some outfits etc.

It may sound silly to some but it is absolutely soul crushing to think that i might be forced to changed my character's name.. i just simply cant accept that. 

I understand PA's wish to make crossover servers but the idea that we might not get to keep our long existing names is completely unfathomable.

You've got your loyal costumers who been with you for years to answer to. I Didn't spent all this time and money to be treated like this.

Find a better solution please.

I understand how you feel. I don't think it will as bad as we all think right now. I hope that I am right.

The feeling I have about this issue. A lot of my friends spent their money for the 3 day early release not because they wanted a mount/costume but because of the name rush. So basically everyone who rushed for that on Xbox is now being SCAMMED out of their money. The only compensation is coupons without the guarantee of you actually getting that name before the others RUSH to log on that day. So if someone for whatever reason types in your name you lose it.

How is that at all fair to us customers who have been playing since day one release? Its absolutely not fair. Then you're starting toxicity/wars because if that person loses their name you can bet they are gonna hunt people down with the person in Velia. Just to kill that person who has their stolen name. If not that, then they will just straight up quit because we spent a lot of time with that name/char just to have it be taken from us. "Become your true to self" Yet you will not even allow us to become our true self's when you strip our IGN/Family titles that we've had for x amount of days before PS4 community enter the field.

So basically they knew what was going to happen and yet screwed everyone over anyways.

Update: After checking you-tube comments apparently they did the same thing to ps4 with the early access. Making my point even more dead on about the F*** customers for money grab.

I've got well over 5000 hours on the console and hundreds of $$ over the last year spent on this game.  I've been through countless server merges, name changes, etc. in other games and one thing I can tell you is that when I am forced to get a name like TEMPNAME07386 and then I cannot reclaim MY name, my interest in the game fades quickly.  I've spent countless hours as this persona in BDX.  It is personal to me.  I too paid for early access to secure my name.  

I've never understood why games have a single unique name to begin with as a unique identifier.  Make it something like blizzard or perfect world where they append a handle behind he scenes to your name.  From a tech standpoint it seems so year 2000.  If I lose my name I'm going to be so pissed off.  I rather not have cross play than lose my name.

what got me the most was the word toxic. They will not put PS4/XBOX next to our names for fear of us "Murdering them" and being "Toxic". Yet a lot of people are going to be very toxic regardless over the name issue. I know if I was a guild leader and my guild name was stolen. I would be permanently decking that guild. Same with the person that steals my name "if" I continued. 

Which I probably wouldn't continue if I lost my IGN/Family. But lets say I did save my names. What if a lot of the people i played with lost theirs and quit? I still get screwed. I rather not continue to support a community that basically said F*** you to all of us.

Well that's "if" what they are implying is true about this first come first served. What would make it worse about this grand plan waiting to f*ck everyone over. If you've ever joined BDO discord. All the trolls/people who want the name on PS4 would have to do is go to the recruitment tab and steal the guild/name just by creating it on the their server till this date hits. Better yet if a Xbox friend has a PS4 friend in Rl and wants that name/guild BOOM! One time opportunity. (Same for IGN/Family)

I dont even know if i will continue if my name gets stolen... what will be 100% likely because i see on ps4 already a lot of people with my charactername + some suffix or something. Payed the early access and had a alt character just for name reservation of my Valkyrie for the 5 month until she dropped on ps4 and playing her as main with this one name since then... if i loose it i will be so pissed, i dont think BDO will survive this on my PS4, id rather go back to FF XIV then.

PS.: Where i actually kept my name even throw a few server changes and world travel system. In FF u can actually have the same name as often as you want as long as the family name is different. So maybe bring something like this with the merge? Im not that offended by changing my family name, id rather do that then changing the character name itself.

Sorely disappointed if this current ‘solution’ goes live. I’ve spent a ridiculous amount of time and money on my characters only for them to be stripped of their identity. I will 100% quit if I cannot keep all my names. I know my husband will be happy if that happens; I’ve also need a reason to quit. Don’t mess up, PA, for your sake.

It's within the topic, I don't feel touched by this personally even though I've been playing since day one. I simply cannot be bothered by this as I'm blinded by other, serious, issues the game has. No hate here but no empathy either.

Totally agree with you theres more important matters like the mob reduction and the stability of the game they're more important than keeping an anime character name. Also those who made an unique name they wont be affected but those who named themselves Naruto Uzumaki or Sasuke Uchiha yea you'll be affected.

I know there are a lot other matters there with the coming crossplay but the performance issues and the mob reduction are nothing new, they are here anyway... but if they now add me loosing my name and identitiy of my character to the already existing bugs (that are most likely to get even worth after crossplay) then thats just even more of a reason to be concerned about.

And i'm really sorry to say it but not only those Anime names like Naruto Uzumaki and stuff are going to suffer under this... i name myself in every MMORPG the same and wanna keep it that way. No its not an Anime name and its not something from any other popular Media but it was hard do get a version of it without suffixe added or anything else in the name that i dont like already in PS4 alone. Had to write the name with 2 LL instead of 1 because every other version of the name was already taken and im 1000% sure someone on XBOX will have the name already so when i come home from work on patch day, i suppose my character will have to get some ugly suffix to it what will most likely destroy the fun i have with my character...

You say it's not popular yet you had to add 2 extra L's to your name and you're also sure someone on xbox has it therefore it is popular.

I'm concerned about that too. Especially with the comments from the PS4 side. They haven't hit karma yet and the true reason they toke 40% mobs out wasn't to help Xbox with lag. (Maybe like 15% if you want to give them a benefit of the doubt...) However, realistically speaking it was for PS4 complications. The PS4 is having difficulty with graphics etc. Some wouldn't be able to handle it the full set of mobs atm. Yet alone a cross plat form merge with Xbox all at once. Their copy of the game is having insane amount of glitch's & difficulty and from what I understand they don't even have all the classes. Like we do on Xbox. Instead of fixing things fully and slowly bring both party's together. They decided its best for a full melt down effect.  Its absolutely stupid in my opinion because if one thing goes wrong they risk even more costumers then they already "Toying" with over the name debate. Toying I mean for the people who have Anime, Commonly used names, & etc. They haven't even fixed issued like the market or the ring bar. Yet they want to blow everyone over. Its amazing!!! its like they want to become the new DEAD Destiny 2 or Conan Exiles smh

A lot of my friends already moved on because of the 40% mob drop. They where thinking about coming back once the mobs increased again because they use to grind 30-40m in two hrs. Crafting takes too long and only benefits if your at work/busy. If you are active however you could make twice the amount of IGM vs crafting afk for 4 hours. Unless your luck is "God Like" with Alchemy Stones. But now with the news over the name issue it destroys them coming back at all. So even if we worry about further performances and crashes the damage is done for old member's who found that to be very important.

We are. And we show those concerns in other topics that are already open on the subject, infact there are probably 3-4 topics that are mainstream on the forums right now regarding those issues.

Yet no one seemed to mention the nickname change issue that comes with the crossover. So i took it up on myself to express those worries that many others share and agree with, as you can see in this topic.

I would appreciate it if you could not hijack the thread and show the least amount of respect to everyone who do care about this.

Also, You're more than welcome to open a new topic or bump one of your older topics and express your concerns there. 

It comes down to laziness on the devs side. They even said this is the easiest way to do it not taking how the players feel into consideration. Imagine you refunding 5 dollars from Pearl Abyss? They would ban you account in a second. But its ok for them to have you pay for early access to reserve your name then take what you paid for away. I will still keep playing and a name is not a huge deal to me but I 100% agree with this thread, the players should matter.

There are 2 types of people that play these games.  "ILLSTABZYOURFACE" and "Bill Smith".  ILLSTABZ doesn't really care about the name.  It could be STABZZZ or STABXXXX or xXSTABZXx or whatever.  If it sounds funny anything will work.  Bill Smith on the other hand grabbed a common name that others will most likely have tried to get but he was first.  Billz Smithz won't do.  That guy has played as Bill Smith for a year.  He is Bill Smith in BDX...NOT Billz Smithy.  I hear what you all are saying about all the other issues but honestly none of those matter to me if I don't want to play the game.  I'm Bill Smith.  My characters always have names that are popular fantasy names and I always pay for early access to create those names and make them mine.

Literally a dumb reason to lose a name just cause they want to put a controller logo like in pubg cause people gonna go for them. A few might but, not everyone is a bad person like they are trying to make us, if anything this will bring more toxicity. We aren't little kids to KOS everyone that is in a different console. People on discord are already targeting peoples name to force them to change it, like come on bro we gonna lose our names to trolls, which is gonna bring even more toxicity. Besides its not like they are forced to play on cross play servers, so why change peoples names. I honestly feel disappointed but i guess that is PA for you. I hope you guys get at least one of your names. Probably moving to PSO2 OR FF14 When it comes to Xbox. GG to all. 

Easiest solution would to put a time from day 1 you got your name. Day 1.4 ps4 hours keeps name vs day 2.1 xbox.

Even if these occurred months apart they have a relative time (release time)

theres only one problem, what if i deleted my character that i had as a name reservation and created a other class that wasnt out at day one with that name. Then the other person would have had the name effectivly earlier no?

The solution would be to have BOTH family and name be the characters identifier. This way the only people forced to have name changes are those that happen to have the same family name as well as the same character name. Which is much less likely. Do they need to update other systems like chat and mail...uhh yeh...but honestly they should have fixed this rather poor naming system long ago. Seems to me that they are being lazy. Instead of correctly fixing the problem they are looking for a work around. They must have known for a long time that cross play was coming. And should have been working on this from the start.

One thing I haven't noticed is that there are people that either part time or full time stream BDO.

In these cases their name isn't just something important to them it's a brand identity, so it's beyond just loving a name they care about it means if say a person spent money in creating a brand from their character name they are not only out the thousands of hours of love time and commitment in game, they are also out commissioned art, the sub-culture of their fan base, and now this effects both their opinion of the game as an influencer for PA (either directly as a PA partner) or indirectly as a content creator that plays,reviews, and critiques other games.

I've seen a fair number of Console BDO players no longer streaming in light of cross play (directly and indirectly related to this issue.) as a result there's less BDO content on console. This is concerning when BDO is a social game and needs content creators as a part of its community. I personally now watched Xbox versions of the game of things to look forward to on PS4 and PC Streamers of BDO to see what the future holds in the long term.

Just change family names and clan/guild names if the same, leave main name as is, and add family name to chat etc. Pre ordered to get the names, lazy coding kind of sucks. No need to rush crossplay, sort the names out.

Yup they should honestly do that, it will be more ez to do if they add family and same name in chat. No one will get mad if they do it that way, honestly im fine changing  my family name, but im not ok losing my name that i got on the first day. If they do it like that i bet it wont bring toxicity up since most people dont really care about their family names, they are care more about the names they got in the first place. People only got the Ultimate edition to get the names that they wanted, they really didn't care about family names cause its whatever. They should just adopt the concept of people having the same name, but different family names. Most Mmos especially Japanese mmos do this. Its either they do this make everyone happy, or go follow the route they were going and make people quit the game. If they choose to do this it might effect their sales on their upcoming game crimson desert. People will remember what they did in BDO, and people wont buy their next game for causing such a huge problem. At the end of the day its up to them, i just hope they make a good one that will make their fans happy, So that we can play more of their games in the future.

That is unfortunate.

Your 2 week old character would lose out to some one who committed earlier in the game cycle then you.

But it was only a very fair solution due to gap in release dates. So you are safe for now

Changing the family name is much more worse. If I would loose my family name, I would leave the game finally.

In playing this game everyday for over a year I have built up friendships, rivalries, a reputation on my character under my name(s). Taking that away is more that just disappointing to me. It's against the entirety of what a Role Playing Game is about. The vast majority of people do not adopt a different persona. Instead they make themselves in the game and a name is a functioning tether to the rest of the experience.
For the players as a whole please take some time and figure out a solution that does not punish those who have been the most dedicated to the game. Those who made sure we were in as early as possible and have never left. 

If/when you see this PearlAbyss, Thank you for listening to us and taking the time to get more feedback. The consistency you show in communication will mean more than any decision in the whole Cross-play update.
