Does anyone else think that xbox will announce a new xbox at e3? They usually make some sort of "s" or smaller version. Im trying to wait before i can upgrade to a x because it will be cheaper soon.

No? The x was just announced last e3 and came out last November.

Microsoft is always working on the next thing. Also people have been talking about Microsoft allowing xbox's to switch to work like an actual pc

And they were saying they wanted to have a good e3 bc last years was lackluster for them in some areas.

I highly doubt they will announce a new console this year. It’ll probably be a good two years after the x is out and has had a few price cuts before a new one is out. Why announce a new one when the x has only been out for 7 months almost. There was a 3 year gap between the first gen one and the S. The x hasn’t even had a price cut yet? It’d make zero sense to bring a new console out

The problem with that thought is that it's somewhat based on the old school thinking that consoles operate in "generations". Microsoft seems to be trying to get people to view consoles similar to  how they view cell phones, which basically release every year. Everyone will have multiple low end/mid range/high end options to choose from. I would not be surprised if Microsoft would do the unexpected and blow the doors open with some new product or cool variation.

Yeah they could bring one out but it’s not needed. Microsoft’s problem isn’t their console, it’s been the lack of games for said console. More so lack of single player exclusives, or exclusives in general. Personally to me it’d make no sense for them to bring out a new console when the x just launched less than a year ago. They need to focus on games and new ips before a new console.

This. And the fact if the X had bad hardware designs it should be fixed

I won't outwardly disagree with the exclusives "needed" comment(even tho I personally strongly dislike single player hack&slash and pray to god that Microsoft does not follow Sony in that regards) but the software development department is completely separate from the hardware development department. You're suggestion would indicate that they can't do both simultaneously. In truth, Microsoft/Xbox needs to continue to "blow the doors off" in hardware department AND also start again to rock the software department. They can't be mutually exclusive...they must do both every year for the next 5-10yrs in order to regain hypothetical lost ground..

probably not. they might release a new kinect system for the one x.

my bet is that they will announce some new features for their "game pass" system. "game pass" imo is the biggest achievement microsoft has had in the past years regarding marketing games. They completely changed the way people play and shop for games. their exclusives are kinda crappy lately but the big ass game library they got on game pass is insane!

They recently deleted a few best games from game pass, and tbh there are not so many good titles in there now. State of decay 2 and sea of thieves helped it alittle.

For me Microsoft is failing too much with exclusives. We didn't get any worthy game in a while, and the co op rpg which was announced with the console was cancelled...

It will never die, but that's where it's headed, if you look at what they're doing, Xbox is essentially a simplified pc. The Xbox won't go away, it just won't be like it was in the past.

How do cell phones make money? How do car makers make money? No other industry uses the format of "generations". Microsoft is essentially creating the "cell phone" of consoles.

Cell phones and cars do have generations. Its either by year or in number/letter format. Example being apples iphone

Not true at all, at least not in the sense of consoles. I can still use my iPhone 6 and all the apps work across a wide numbers of phones. They never/rarely make apps that only work on one model. Even cars, many years have interchangeable parts. Like I said, no other industries have generations and Microsoft is wise to get rid of them with their consoles.

But Xbox 2 will never be it's own generation. It will always share games with other models, which essentially means it's not a generation. It just becomes another device in the family of devices that play xbox games.

But it will first share them when they upgrade the games to newer generation ?

But I get your point

The other "proof" is that the Xbox store is gone, replaced with the Microsoft store. They want the family of devices playing Microsoft games to include all Xbox consoles, Surface tablets, Windows PC's and eventually phones. I will say tho that this approach would appear to open the door to other console manufacturers, similar to how different pc manufacturers use Windows. Time will tell if Microsoft allows it.

As Microsoft continues to integrate apps from outside sources, imo it's just another indication that the console is no longer in a "generations cycle" and is moving to the "family of devices" idea. Eventually the 360 will be 100% obsolete, probably when the Xbox Two release, and maybe the Xbox One will be discontinued when the Xbox Three release. I'm guessing that support for each device will essentially span 10 yrs. I suppose you could consider that a generation but it would overlap other generations which is historically different from how generations functioned previously. It will also be interesting to see how Sony approaches this next console. Will the PS5 play PS4 games or will they stick to the generations, where the PS5 will only play PS5 games?

Thats called a model. The only definition of generation theres on cell phones are the type of data transmission technology. That's it.

Xbox are going in the correct direction imo. With consoles that are cheaper than most smart phones and pc. And offer a whole lot, especially with their game pass program.

Lol, sure but you're talking about a phone that came out in 2010. Apple is already up to iPhone 9 coming this yr. Please keep the comparison relevant. I'm pretty sure the latest ios would work on an iPhone 6. But aside from the ios, I bet many of the same apps and games would run on the 4, which is actually more comparable. It's just different models in a family, just like what Microsoft is doing with Xbox, with all playing the same games.

But it's kind of irrelevant what we think, the proof is in the pudding. Microsoft has already stated this is their goal and it makes sense. We'll just have to see how it plays out and how many models they make developers overlap. Developers already create scaled versions for pc so really shouldn't be that difficult on console.

I would love to see Microsoft come out with a new console every year. Make my request for birthday/Christmas presents a lot easier. lol

My point is that something has to give sooner or later. Especially as technology advances. Better graphics etc...
