Nah, you won't be the worst. I have an issue where I like to learn as much as possible about a game instantly, instead of just playing it. Understanding games is my forte ?

Are u only playing 1 hour  a day or why are u only 53? I don't know how u can so low after that playtime. If u are that lvl u could try to get the quest helmet and shoes (on work atm so I can't get the names right) the helmet is a quest line that starts in abun (south of Altinova) and is called something like help the merchant guild. The shoes starts in the near of the manes on a node where there are 2 people on a stone. Both Armour pieces are   like a pri armour. If u are lvl 55 do the abyssal weapon quest. Its not good for pvp but has the ap of a pri weapon. I have 5 chars on lvl56 and one one 57 the other 2 are below 55. And that while I'm in a guild that have war everyday.

Do the main story. Get to 55. Asula accessories(upgraded from treant set), roaring dim offhand(black spirit quest), dim armor(black spirit quest), free +13 grunil helm(first quest in mediah). Abyssal weapon quest(ultimate pri/duo equivalent), node manager quest at highland junction(boots ultimate pri/duo equivalent), trade manager quest in Abun(helm ultimate pri/duo equivalent). Unfortunately gloves quest is bugged and upgrading dim armor quest is bugged until Valencia). But those basic tasks will get u close to the 350 gs range, and outside of asula farming require minimal killing. Just ask guildies for some help.

And if u wanna have a decent daily income for nothing, then raise ur combat fame.(idk if it's called fame in English). It's on your info page the left number in the middle. There are different stages. U can get up to 4 million a day ( not atm cause u only have max 11 char slots)for a lvl 55 u get 55 points ( 1 point for each lvl). A lvl 56  - 59 gives double points for each lvl (a 56 gives 112 points) and for lvl 60 and higher u get 5 times the amount (lvl 60 =300 points). The other 2 fames are more difficult to get. The in the middle I think is ur lifeskill fame and on the right is "progress" fame (I read somewhere  it's based on your knowledge, cp and energy). I get 925.000 everyday for doing nothing

From the conversation, it seems the only viable way to progress is pvp, which isn’t sandbox to me. More on-rails progression...

Not hard didnt play PC just requires you to research things. If you are under 300 gs at this point you are doing something wrong a few hours doing main questlines should have you near 300 and grinding for asulas should have you above that.

So it looks like the answer is to stop questing unless it is the main quest and to stop processing everything my workers bring in because that leaves no time for doing main quest. 

Ive been logged in almost 24x7 since launch, most of that time is making beer on Monday, processing everything during the week while I work irl and doing other afk stuff while spending time with family/dinner etc after work, and then questing (not main quest, usually cooking or other LS stuff) on weekends. 

Like, I’ve been doing just about everything I come across as I find it other than trade quests, though I knocked half of all Balenos ones out. There’s so much stuff to do. Kinda disheartening none of it ‘matters’ other than the main story...which has me around Glish right now if that tells you anything. 

I get 500k/day in Fame. Maybe 100million silver total...not too sure, but flax thread and flour etc just doesn’t bring in much on CM apparently.

None of it matters if your putting it in the context of trying to have a high GS. If your a casual player or someone who predominantly does lifeskills then keep going like you are, but dont worry about what gs or cp, energy, sp you have.

There are 1001 ways to play and your trying to tall about 30 of them in 1 post.

Yea sounds like ur just playing ur own way. Quests build up cp and alot of them will help u down the line for energy as well through adventure journal knowledge. Seems a common thing now people worry too much about catching up. Pace yourself this game will punish you if you try to race through it unless you have thousands of dollars to spend
