Greetings!
The way workers work these days is that you send them to gather stuff for you and they do that ONLY if you're in game.
This poses a really big problem for xbox and console users in general. While PC players could minimize and do something else entirely, We don't have that option. Not to mention the fat electric bill...
To tackle this apparent problem i'd like to suggest the following:
- Add an Elixir that would grant continuous independent working ability for workers.
- This item should be crafted by players and could be sold in the market.
- It should also be applied to each worker separately just like Beer.
- The effect duration of the crafted elixir should be 1,2 and 3 hours, The longer the duration the more and rarer reagents the crafting should consume.
- Premium elixirs that grant 4, 6 and 8 hours should be sold, respectively, in the cash shop for pearls. They should not be account bounded.
- Playing while the elixir's effect is still on should consume time as if you were offline.
- Elixirs cannot be stacked
- Worker energy drains at the same rate as working while online.
I hope you consider this suggestion as it could offer a solution for players who are not able to stay online for long a duration. This also has a potential to generate profit to the company. I don't think there are plenty of methods to monetize offline time.
On a personal note: i consider my suggestion to be harsh and more appealing to the company's aspect. If i had the chance i'd make it more player friendly my self like duration stacking, less energy drain from workers while offline, longer duration for crafted elixirs and no timer consumption while online.
Your thoughts?

That sounds like a logical and well-thought out suggestion...
I would only counter the "fat electric bill" comment in that the xbox one takes less power than even low end gaming pc's...but that's irrelevant to me, my xbox stays on 24/7.
I feel that the bigger issue is that you get logged out of a game if you try to switch games. It's one thing to just leave your xbox on but currently you can't have more than one game running, which is a problem. So yes, aside from making the afk activity to run on the server side, I think your suggestion is a good solution.
this is a very good idea. for me it would be awesome. because I dont want to run my X 24/7 and I also Play other Games + use Netflix/Amazon Video etc.

I said this in our Xbox Discord. The idea that people will leave there Xbox on for like 29 hours is ridiculous. I think the best way to do it is to offer something that can be done Offline like you said. Even if they were given multiple tasks to do for hours while you are offline would be awesome. It would bring so much more QoL to the game and make it much easier for Console users considering most people don't plan on leaving an Xbox on for an eon.
I would love to see a system where we can make workers work offline. It's such an amazing idea.
Sounds good but too much of rebuilding the game. I think we will get the same as PC
FFXIV came out with a companion app for gathering/life skilling. You guys should make a companion app for BDO that lets the player stay "online" but on their phone or tablet rather than on the Xbox. Allow players to do some small things like manage workers, restore worker stamina, use the marketplace, view in game chat (even if just limited to guild and whisper). Some more advanced features that would be more complicated to do but that would be nice would be: managing farms, processing, fishing, horse training, weight training/breath training. All of these normally afk activities could then be done from the app.
Really hope you guys consider this idea! It could be a lot of fun. Players could check up on things or talk to their friends any time!

That would be awesome!!!! I would give you 100 likes if I could. I love this idea!

Damn it, I'm all out of likes and the day is just starting... guess I'll just do hearts.
Making this change isn't as simple as adding a potion. The worker system is based on coding which requires the user to be online. I usually watch YouTube on my Xbox until I fall asleep and I set my TV to auto-off every 4hrs, so my Xbox is on all night anyway.
Personally, I think it's going to take a re-coding of the worker system for the Xbox to get this issue properly resolved, but until that happens get ready to leave your Xbox running 24/7.

Right, workers are client side. To be able to have them going while a player is offline they would need to be server side. Could be more complicated to do than we would think....which is why the app would be a great idea! Because then they could stay client side, and we could have a way to manage things in game similar to what some players on PC are able to do through remote access. I feel like making something new is always easier than going back through and changing things. Because other unexpected issues can pop up.

Thats a great idea! It can have a whole worker window and everything for you, Energy Levels, Materials and Time Stamps. That would be really cool. But back to square one problem. Botters.

Contrary to what a lot of people say, the botting problem is really not that big in BDO. They generally do a really good job of cracking down on it (for the most part, there was some kind of fishing bot that took them forever to do anything about but I digress). It would be easier to bot with a system that just keeps workers going even while the player is offline, than it would be with the app.

Harder doesn't mean impossible. The way they would have to implement it is that it needs to feel fulfilling and rewarding to the true players of the game and at the same time throw off any people who go into the settings of the device and leave the screen always on (botting) off. It needs to be made perfectly balanced. I can see it happening, but at the same time I can see why they wouldn't do it.
For all you guys concerned with AFK on xbox.. if you use instant on your xbox stays on anyways. Its no different
Shameless bump. i still think this needs to be addressed by the team.
Also, regarding the xbox power settings. id rather watch youtube or play something else on my xbox and not make it a BDO slave. PC players are able to multi task, we should atleast have this.
i have bought the xbox one just for this one purpose tho
beeing my energy saving bdo afc slave ?
even if workers would be set to offline mode, i still would go on with afk activities like fishing, processin materials or train horses
this is how you make silver in bdo after all
I have no issues making my xbox one just a bdo afk slave. I do all my other media on my PC, though I do plan on occasionally playing other games...
well, my suggestion is to have the option to make them work offline with an item. not permanently.
i think there are many people with different positions that might make it easier on them if the workers could be active offline.
I'v tried to do a bit of research on this and didn't find anything (didn't try that hard), if calculations are run server side it should be as simple as checking a box before you log off, then your afk activities run for x amount of time before you have to relog and refresh the timer. if it's done client side (which i doubt, because bad idea) then theirs not a whole lot than can be done, besides making your xbox run 24/7 and not doing anything else with it.

workers are clientside
there was a famous glitch a while back called "worker time travel exploit" over this issue
basicaly what users did was changing the system time one hour ahead to instantly finish all worker tasks
you can think of the outcome if you do this.. a 1000 times

I don't understand why they wouldn't have the server handle the the afk activities, even on the pc. I'm guessing MS will make them change something so people aren't required to have their consoles on 24/7.
Anyone know how the mobile version handles afk activities? I can't imagine that would be on the phone. That would wreck your data and battery!

think of the additional task
if every player uses min of 30 workers which is common this causes alot of serverload

I'm sure they will find some kind of workaround, not playing is almost as important as playing.

That would be very minor in comparison to actual player interactions and battles.
How do they do it on mobile? I assume console will be similar.

not that much into server architekture but could imagine that running a timer is kinda heavy on serverload
running 4.2kk timers at the same time could be quit devastating for a server
I'v thought about this a bit, the only way I think it would work without offloading the work to be server side, and without a companion app would to have the client run all the calculations before you log off then create a number of "checkpoints" (1 hour,2 hour 3 hour, etc.)with your gains/losses. Example check box (insert name here)->log off->slightly longer load screen (from it running the #s)->shut off xbox-> come back quarter after six-> when you log back on it puts you on your 6 hour checkpoint with your gains/losses. Like i said though I'm sure their working on it and they will be able to come up with something better than what I can come up with in one night.
If possible to do I think that would be ideal. It wouldn't be that hard to do with workers at least (I think?), but maybe more difficult for things like processing and fishing.
