Black Friday's coming, and I want to decide whether I want an Xbox One X, or an Xbox One S. I've played this game before so I could care less about the graphics, but I know that framerates affect gameplay substantially. What were the framerates like on the consoles? And what did the games look like as well? I can't seem to find much solid info on this.

If you plan to PvP at all go with the X. You'll need the extra power for node wars

If you can get the x choose the x if not the S should be fine but the x is a beast

I have issues with seige / node wars at times though on my gaming desktop so I can see it being an issue here, even on the one x.

The biggest stress I got though was a 35 person RBF (didnt get to attend the Kzarka event).

I also had a 30 plus RBF and given the smaller damage and extra latge pots everyone was in a huddle. This on my midrange pc would start to lag and lose frames even on low settings. However on the X i didnt miss a beat. I also missed the kzarka event though.

When the severs finally stabilized (we pretty much wrecked them for the event, it was a beta though) things were pretty smooth with lots of people/effects on screen. I played as a witch and didnt noticed any framerate issues while blowing stuff up or creating blizzards and meteors. I was playing on my One X with the 4K visuals turned on.

If you’re buying a new console I wouldn’t buy the older Xbox One S. 

Buy the Xbox One X to future proof yourself. Frame rates in almost every online game on Xbox one (almost) will be locked across the family of consoles so that actually will not make a difference generally speaking.

Framerate cap will be locked to 30 or 60 yes but that doesn't mean it will hit that cap consistently. I would go with One X as it has 550Mhz faster CPU and that is REALLY important for MMOs especially when u get many people on screen.

Just sharing my understanding as the developer hasn’t provided what you’re asking however it’s a simple decision. 

Get the Xbox one x for the best experience regardless. Not much else to it for Xbox one games. Honestly if you’re hoping for 60 FPS you shouldn’t play on console at all and build or buy a gaming PC for this game. I’m running it at 55-60 on my setup under very high and I seriously doubt the Xbox one x is going to magically handle this game better than my gaming PC.  The older consoles definately won’t hit 60 FPS so it’s a safe assumption that we all are going to be below 60 

But manage your expectations

Go with the X. I have the S, and I noticed a lot of issues during the Beta, especially for the boss fight at the end. Hopefully you can afford to dish out the extra money before release. I'm going to try to upgrade as well lol.

well, it wouldn't be future proofing much, the next xbox it due 2 year from now.

Everything is to be taken into context for this game which is being designed for the current family of Xbox consoles.

well if MS are to believed, xbox one games will all work on the newer consoles, that was their big thing, making it so everything is compatible.

I'd strongly encourage you to get the X if you can afford it, it's a world better, imo

Strongly recommend the X. The performance is unparalleled.

If you can afford the X without making any concessions. Hands down the X. Game runs better and looks better
