Hi guys,
Just a quick and somewhat obvious suggestion for people who own both xbox one and the one x and fear about wearing down the one x with afk activities.
So basically, if you own a tv with dual HDMI you could connect both consoles to the tv and just switch between the source output (e.g. HDMI-1 & HDMI-2) on your remote controller. Just make sure you shutdown your game on the console you wont be playing.
Use the xbox one for afk activities and switch to the one x when you're actively playing.
Wear and tear would be miniscule on the one x even with afk activities but it stacks in the long run imo (might be just paranoid).
Cheers
I wonder how many rich and lucky bastards have both.. My Xbox One X was super expensive in my country..

Officially offended ?
Jk
Not rich but luckily the price dropped around here and I also got it tax free ?so its roughly a 95$ less than the original price.
I have both...seriously a bad suggestion for me,the x gets turned off when i go to bed. I do not leave games running when not playing, i don't want the chip to overheat and my x die. Somd of us cant afford to replace our console every few months, besides,2019 xb 2 might launch. Rather spend money on nedxt gen console and pearl shop.
I have both an X and an S but I wont be leaving them on all night, I just dont like the idea of that. But for those that do its a good idea, specially if you are running in 4K on the X. It will just have to take me forever to do stuff. Have they even said how afk activities will differ on the console vs pc?

I dont use myns anymore its emergency backup thats all.
I use my XB1 about 17-18 hours straight on my days off work, and ran it like that for the year i was unemployed. Believe it or not the XB1 can handle quite a bit, so i wouldn't worry about it. However i just bought a 1X and from what i've heard(i ordered it online yesterday so it hasn't arrived yet) it runs hotter, but hopefully it still runs for long hours without issues. Either way OP has a good suggestion.

If we take the beta and the silence from the staff regarding this matter as an indication, then there should be no difference in afk activities between the xbox and PC versions.
BUT we know nothing for sure since a beta doesn't indicate a finished product so we'll know in the official release.
So I can't afk fish with my Xbox? Will it really break or something if I leave it running 24/7?

I'm doing something very similar. Except I can't sacrifice the xbox one from my bedroom. Still keep my one X in the living room. Ill more then gladly do my afk morning and evening check in from the comfort of my bed. Unfortunately though that means no more Netflix. Might have to plug in my 360. At that point I definitely wouldn't be doing it to save power consumption. Also not really concerned of wear and tear on my One X. I only need 2.5 more years out of it.

Don't worry it wasn't cheap in Canada. 599$ plus tax, environmental fees, electronics fee. Over 700 all said an done. Just made sure to put some money from every cheque when they announced it. Didn't want release sneaking up leaving me empty handed.

You don't have to be rich to own both. You can buy a used original Xbox for pretty cheap if you plan on afking. EBay is full of them for just over $100 and you can probably pick one up at a pawn shop for even less

This is my plan. Kept my old Xbox for this reason when I bought my X. Its worth more to me as a backup then the $50 or so a pawn shop would pay me for it

AFK fishing was in the Beta. You simply hit x to cast and then walk away. I stayed #1 in Fishing on Altinova after only one night of AFK fishing.

no it wont mess up ur console at all. the only way it will kill ur machine is if u dont blow out the machine every couple of months with some compressed air or if u stuff it into a tv cabinet where it just heat soaks all day due to no air flow. when u afk fish the image isnt bein rendered as hard as it is when ur actively runnin around in the game doin stuff so the power usage will drops and so will the temps inside of the console. people that say otherwise r just tryin to scare people when really if u follow what i listed above and take care of ur console it will last for years to come.
