So not sure if this is a bug or intended, but I have not seen any other reports similar yet.
Does anyone else have an issue where the game gets super dark over and over due to lighting and reflections? I noticed that in the evening game time the game gets super dark and its almost impossible to see. Its like the brightness is auto adjusting over and over.
Im using the xbox x with an lg tv display, my wife uses a default xbox 1 on a pc moniter and does not have this issue.
I think that should simulate blending effects like in real world if you go from a sunny day in a dark room.
I dont like that effect ingame... would be great if we had more graphic and ui custom options.
I believe it’s a issue with HDR. You mentioned Xbox One X, I have similar issues in other games. It’s not a easy fix, and may or may not be game related.
You can test if it’s a HDR issue.
1) Close and Quit BDX. The force quit method, either launch another game or go to the BDX tile and select start and quit
2) Go to your Xbox Settings and navigate to Display and Sound then video output(?).
3) You should see a checkbox next to HDR10. Uncheck that.
4) Now that HDR is off, restart BDX and see how the darks and brights are. You may actually need to adjust game brightness to get close to where you were with HDR on.
I’m not saying this is a solution, but you can still enjoy 4k and not have the darks to dark/brights too bright in BDX, you may have to use this method until BDX addresses it.
Just remember to turn HDR back on for other games
Was a nice try. I figured it might be the HDR however apparently my TV doesnt even support HDR10 so its only native 4k UHD. I did drop it to 1080p just to see if that might do anything but it didnt seem to make a difference other than making the game look potato mode.
Does the Black Desert setting showing HDR brightness adjustments for you? If so...it thinks you have HDR. If not...ugh...gamemhad issues in the first beta with bright n dark...maybe more tuning is coming.
No my game doesnt have any settings like that. Very basic things like camera effects, which i have turned to 0, but made no difference.

Ok, then you sure don’t have HDR on the TV. Hmm, a LG 4k tv with no HDR...didn’t know that was a thing.
I’ll try one more ask...does the TV truely say it has no HDR support or does the Xbox X not recognize it?
For my Samsung i needed to set my HDMI input to UHD color for the Xbox to pickup all the 4k features.

Ignore if this doesnt apply.
Happens to me too. Xbox One OG on 720p tv and on the S on 4K tv. It’s better than it was in beta though...and I can see where the effect is supposed to be there, it’s intent, it’s just a little dramatic at times. Like sunset.
My tv does have HDR but it doesnt work with the xbox. Its one of those black friday sale tv's when 4k first came out so compatability is a pain because i dont think its ever been updated to support the HDR feature for consoles. I had the same issue with my PS4 Pro on the same tv with it not recognizing the HDR. Its just wierd that the brightness fluctuates so much when my wife who plays right next to me on another screen doesnt have the issue. Its by no means stopping me from playing, the game is great i think, just annoying.
I wish there was a toggle for these effects, I'm really sensitive to lightning changes like these. --Momentai :3
Has anybody found potential solutions/are they in the works? I have the same issue on 2 of the 3 tvs/monitors I've tested, and it's a huuge pain, sometimes making the game almost completely unplayable.
Are there any plans to introduce more graphics options? It would be very helpful if we could turn off at least some of the lighting features.

I have the same issue. Also on an X and 60 inch screen. Adjusting tv settings doesn't help and there is no ingame setting to help adjust brightness, contrast to players needs. I think it looks awful this way and is really bad around sunset or sunrise. Feel like I am going blind and causes eye strain as if the tiny text in game isn't bad enough. ?
the camera moving from dark sky to light ground kills everything on screen... they need to make it linear or steady/fixed lighting..

Exactly how I feel. --Momentai :3
Idk if this will help anyone but I noticed the same thing, every time an npc would fire a gun the whole screen would go dark and bright again. So this is what I tried and so far so good, it didnt 100% fix but easily 90. Go to where you're noticing the problem, for me this was easy because it was a gun going off so it basically was a timed thing every 3 or 4 seconds the screen would dim badly. For you you may have to find the right spot to stand so you can move the camera to make it happen but once you find it open settings and go to display settings then go to HDR contrast and begin tweaking with that. Its only going to be fixed within a 10 to 15 unit window though ao it might take some time. For me it fixed around 70-80ish but at 85 and at 75 the problem would come back. Then after you fix that issue you can adjust brightness levels to clear out super brights if you have them(I did just a tad). Hope this helps, and I know you said no HDR so you might not even have that setting but then maybe just your regular contrast might help. Good luck!

is it like this?
I have the same issue and if this is intended they seriously need to get rid of it asap.
i do have a brightness slider in the settings but its just a big white square and no matter what i put the slider at nothing changes.
I dont want to be too negative and i do like the game in general but it sure has alot of issues and i hope they dont consider it finished and stable like it is right now.
Time will tell ?
i have a Non HDR monitor have sam problem if i look at the sky for a bit all the terrain is dark and hard to see
I usually just open the map and close it once the textures of the map load in. It is a pain but thats how Ive been getting around it. I am playing on an X with HDR enabled
