Just be aware, once your value pack expires...
- Mervs Palette no longer works or applies the Dyes you took hours to apply.
- You go back to the default colors of your gear until you pay more $$ for another Mervs Palette
So you have to keep an active ‘subscription’ to have your character Dye’d.
Or you can roll the dice on the Dye bundles where you get 3 Dyes of random hues of a certain color. Good luck trying to get anything that you like.
Massive disappointment that Mervs dyes aren’t permanent once you dye your items.
I mean, think about this, you paid for a painter to come paint your house. You paid him $100 to paint it white. When he leaves, they don’t go back to they’re old color. If you decide to have the house painted green, you pay the painter another $100 to paint them green.
For Mervs Pallete, we are paying to apply dyes and they should stay. We paid for the Pallete.
Once Mervs expires, the abilty to change dyes goes away but what you ‘painted’ your walls should stay painted.
Next time we decide we want different colors, we pay to open Merv’s Pallete again. That’s how it should work.
But no...pay to use AND pay to keep the painted walls.
EDIT: And yes...PC knows this....but some Xbox players might be surprised after 30/90 days.
Sounds reasonable to me, but I also understand it is a reasonable way to make money. They leave gambling for the dyes that are perm, most games use gambling. I am just glad they make it so I dont have to gamble. Swtor does basically the same thing minus being able to dye all colors. All dyes are from gambling boxes.
Most of the game is gambling of some form atleast they give us a way to not gamble with our outfit colors To recap the wall of text lol.

I’m super good with it as well. At first I thought there was zero permanent dyes but once I found out there was some I was good.
Realted question: Are the perma-dyes one time or unlimited use?

One time use for only ONE dye. If you get Coral red..for example...you get one, you normally have 3-12 slots to dye on a single piece of armor. Enjoy trying to roll Coral red on your next purchase so you can color coordinate armor pieces. So it’s total slot machine cause you don’t get to choose a color, just a broad color category.
Also...the dye is for the Armor piece. You break the Armor or decide to change it, you spin the slot machine all over again.
Unlike ESO, where the dye is assgned to the slot, here it’s to the actual gear. Real ripoff, money making scheme.
I think more players will realize how shitty this is once their value packs run out and you default back to your default gear colors.
Rent your paint...this starts to make me understand why there are PC players who spend $1000 dollars on this game, money grab schemes like this dye system don’t help.

No need to attack someone for having a differing view. I’m sure that I’m in the vast minority, if not completely alone on this one.
Me saying I don’t care does not invalidate your opinion, nor does it somehow increase the odds that PA will never maybe adjust their system based on feeeback.
Nothing personal man. ??
Additional: And it occurred to me that you’re not “attacking” me Ubur...but maybe you didn’t know that I’m not to keen on being associated with blindly having rose. Looted glasses in regards to the game. I have things that bug me like the inability to run, not being able to hide the HUD in observation mode, the seemingly lack of concern about extremely toxic chat in game (though meantioned that in tonight’s stream), and the varied little annoying bugs.
It is true though that I have made a deliberate choice to assume positive intent around the game and PA until I am given reason to assume otherwise. So yes, I’m more positive and forgiving, but no...I’m not a blind “fanboy”.
Ok, I’m a fanboy...just not blind. ?
Sorry if my reply was attacking in it’s own way, not the intent.

Maybe I dont understand your version of a money making scheme, but this surely isnt one. They tell you what it is they are doing, and it's all quite clear. A money making scheme is like trying to sell a xbox s as a xbox x. There are no money grab schemes here. They found a way that supports the game, you honestly cant expect that they will just update it, and keep people hired with no money can you?
There isnt much reason to spent 1000s of dollars on this game. Maybe after alot of years. The game caps you to selling 5 cash items a month I believe it is. As for 1000s cause a sub fee of 15 a month gtfo Haha. I honestly cant believe you are whining about 15 a month for a mmo that is constantly updating, and maintained. Saying it's a cash grab money making scheme.
This is the only successful Asian sandbox mmo that is in the west. Uncharted waters online has like 100 people, arche age is low people, neither could afford a console port in north America.
So if that keeps the game updated, and people paying I dont see anything wrong with it. This game is far less trying to get you to pay money than alot. Uncharted waters online has gambling boxes you get high powered stuff out of. So here it would be equal to if you could get high end gear, and outfits out of a gambling box. They dont explain any of it either.
I honestly dont see how you can say it's a money grab, or a money making scheme. This game isnt gonna stop updating and go out of business any time soon. They didnt take any ones money and go sorry were done. The dye is a reason to keep people subbed its total vanity that is meaningless in game play terms. You need to reward people for money spent or they wont pay. I wouldnt spend 20 a month if the dye system was what was discussed here. I would dye my stuff and that would be that.
On steam there was 18000 or more online last time I checked months ago, and it's been out for years. So saying it is a cash grab is legit utter nonsense. Saying it is a scheme is also utter nonsense, it is clear what they are doing. Nothing is hidden there is no scheme Haha. Here I think this might help u.
The news only got worse. Telltale’s head of HR told employees that because of the company’s financial strain, employees would not get severance pay. Some remained stoic at the news, while others began to cry. One source tells The Verge that half of their monthly income was dedicated to rent alone. “I was living paycheck to paycheck.”
Now how is it they pay all those people, unlike tell tale games, bdo is on going, requires lots of fixing tweaking, updates, and maintenance. Hell a lot of people already complain about not enough chat moderation, and customer service. Here you are saying it's all a scam and a scheme to grab money Haha. What is it you think the whole game runs on?
You literally repeated yourself 5 times. Don’t you have a toxic chat in-game to go support?
The Dye system is BS. Specifically Mervs is BS. Of course unless you buy Mervs over and over, each month.

I usually have to, to make the point clear. Obviously though you are butt hurt over it, so there will be 0 points.
The dye isnt bull ****, it is a good system that keeps the game running. What is bull ****, is you getting butt hurt over it haha.
So i guess you will always be one of those terrible looking peasants, with mismatched cloths cause you are to poor, stubborn, or stupid to support a game you play.
I keep forgetting tho people believe that if they think something is bull **** every one else should to, and if they dont that person is bull **** haha.
With the current system though atleast we all know who supports the game and who doesnt.

You are kinda a clueless soul. Maybe a name change. If you think the Dye system is what supports this game, you haven’t looked around the Pearl Shop economy.
It’s very simple to see what other successful MMOs have done with their cash shop. And how they handle Dyes isnt by taking away what you purchased.
Very simply Mervs could charge you for use of the paint Pallete and the dyes are permanent. The next time I want to tweak a outfit, I have to buy Mervs pallette again. Simple and fair. PA still makes their money cause each piece of armor can break with upgrades, you have multiple versions of armor for life skills, multiple characters, etc. Lots of opportunities to ‘open up’ Merv’s pallete for $10 each time.
And having a Dye system that strips away the Dye you already purchased is a shady sales mechanic.
Also...we all supported the game when we bought it. The console version is a Buy-to-Play model. So your last statement is kinda dumb.
But then, I can see I’m dealing with one of the toxic idiots in the chat. Do us all a favor and go play COD.

Buying the game for 9.99 doesnt support the game, it is not a buy to play model. It is a free to play model basically. Buy to play games have expansions they charge for, this game doesnt charge for expansions.
The dye 100 percent supports the game. Your nonsense about being angry at the chat has nothing to do with this lol. You are just plan angry at everything bdo apparantly Haha. You are butt hurt over the dye, the chat, I am not even sure why you play it.
As for being toxic u are being the very definition of it, i am only responding in kind. You basically said to me, I am stupid the game is a cash grab, scam and everything I dont like about it should be fixed. If you dont agree with me your a toxic troll that should play cod Hahq. I mean come on.
That's like me whining I had to buy another xbox x, because bdo takes my first one 24 7 training horse so I cant do anything, and it was a cash grab from Microsoft.
But yes I know, every one who doesnt agree with you is toxic, everything you dont like in a game makes it a cash grab, and black desert is gonna fail cause you said it would haha.

IGN - Over on PC, Black Desert Online has earned its spot as one of the most popular MMOs around. By adopting a buy-to-play model, similar to The Elder Scrolls Online and Guild Wars 2, once you pay for access to the game, you no longer have to pay a fee anymore (a la Destiny 2) – unless you want to. There’s a cash shop with optional items and perks for premium users, but it’s totally playable as just the base game if you want.

This dye system has been in bdo for years. Tbh just buy a value pack with silver and you never spend a dime. Does it suck ... yeah, but its how they make money.

I guess thats my whole point.
How many new Xbox players will see their Value Packs run out, log in and see their characters have default colors on. Many a player who has worked for hours, if not days perfecting their armor look. Then realize the dyes were all rented and you need to pay again to have them reapplied. That is clearly deceiving and unlike any other MMO dye syatem in western MMOs.
I don’t mind paying for costumes, mounts, pets...but when I buy a option to dye my characters armor pieces, i expect permanent dye, rented use of the Pallete.
I’m done...i’ll just roll the $1.20 dye slot machine 10 times and see what colors I get,

So you are so angry at me, you looked up my other posts, copied one, took it out of context to try and fit your agenda. Then tried to lump me into something about hate speech. You def lost it. If you weren't so filled with nerd rage over a video game, you would figure out 90 percent of the chat is fine. I have yet to see the nonsense you are talking about, though you see it in everything, and any one who disagrees with you is either a troll, hate speech, or what ever else you come up with. Though I dont honestly sit in chat looking for things that upset me like you do. Every time I am in chat though, it's me helping some one with questions, or them helping me. There is definitely people typing random nonsense to trigger people like your self, but I ignore that. I have yet to see any racist people. According to you though it's nothing but that.

Would've been nice if you could keep the colour's after Mervs expires. Or even if it let you select 1 piece to keep the dye(s) on permanently each time you purchase it.
Of all revenue options Pearl Abyss employs this is probably the least controversial to me. It's merely cosmetic and eye candy that doesn't affect any balance.

Aren’t you one here that enjoys the costumes? How do you dye them?
Do you just keep a active sub..err Value pack to keep Merv’s dyes active?
Just seems silly to me. Rented dyes.

I will never run out of Value Pack so i don't have a problem here. Anyway i find it important to note that in KR Mervs Palette is not even part of Value Pack and you have to buy that separately, so we're quite good off as is.
A little disappointed reading that's how dyes work. Realistically thats the lowest reason on my priority list to have a value pack for. This can't actually be making them much money. I haven't really seen a game do this. But I have not played every Mmo out there. It makes sense, everything seems to be "pay for convenience".
Well, when you're VP does run out and you get another one, all your gear goes back to the dye it was. That's a nice feature so that you don't waste another hour finding the right dyes again. SO I guess you can say once you dye your gear is stays dyed 'forever'. You just can't see it. lul

O btw your rented dye, and comparision to painting something in real life is nonsense so you know. Paint wears out in real life, and has to be redone to look new. So look at it as your monthly fee to keep fresh paint on your armor. To keep armor like that colored in real life, running around in the rain, blood, and crap all the time would require paint all the time to keep it new looking.
Your calling bull **** on a 15 dollar pack that gives u unlimited dying, 16 inventory slots, bank slots, weight increase, combat increase, ect. When it literally takes over 50 hours to get horses up to breeding levels. On PC that was fine cause you could do 2 things at once, on xbox you have to buy another xbox if you want to train a horse and play at the same time. Though I suppose I am at 3 xboxes now 2 xs and a s and it is still cheaper than my gaming PC laptop I took back, so it's not to bad. You can tell though not many have 2 xboxs with one they can 24 7 dedicate to horse training, since there are literally no horses for sale ever lol.
Then add in most people dont know you are stuck wearing garbage till you spend 29 mil or 30 bucks.
As I said before them making money is not bull ****. It keeps the game from being sold off or shut down. The merv pallet def makes them money. Once you dye your character armor to the color you want and it disappears to ugly, you want to get the colors back.
10 hours ago, Jacs said:A little disappointed reading that's how dyes work. Realistically thats the lowest reason on my priority list to have a value pack for. I dono how you cant see them making much off of that. People spend lots of time making thier character the way they want it to look, and that includes color. The entire character and graphics only point is to look good, you cant go into first person that I have found and ignore it. So some one spent hours making thier character, and then it goes back to default after them seeing it the color they wanted for a month. They instantly are going to want that color back.

I see my bad, I didnt know what you meant by kr sorry about that. I get what you were saying now. Yep that is 100 percent true if in kr no mervs with value pack, we are doing much better.
They could just make painting colors to be craft able.
Like a production skill painting.
This way you can find recipes in the world that unlock color palletes and you can craft them as many times as you wany or just roll the slot machine with real money for a random recipe.
I think this is the best they can do pleasing all players.
10 hours ago, Hatefulsoul said:So some one spent hours making thier character, and then it goes back to default after them seeing it the color they wanted for a month. They instantly are going to want that color back.
You literally just justified why I say the Mervs Dye system is BS.
Here, this is how real MMOs handle Dyes and Subs
Elder Scrolls Online
If your ESO Plus membership lapses, you will still retain your hand-dyed costumes and hats, but you won't be able to modify them again until you renew your membership.
That is exactly how it should work. Restrict the palette to the sub, but the dyes remain on your gear. In addition, you can earn Dyes in game. Link
I play both ESO and BDX...so before you go off and say ‘go play ESO’, I already do. I enjoy both.
