I did research and was told by many that AFK collecting river water would not give Shards. 

WELL THEN LET ME TELL YOU!

I went to sleep afk river water gathering in Heidel City and to my surprise when I woke up I had a Sharp Shard in my inventory.  Is this a thing for xbox???? If it is please by all means people fill the marketplace with with shards lmao.....I rather slap my silver on the marketplace for some shards. Im lazy dont judge me :(.

From what I have learned shards have an equal chance of dropping from any harvesting activity. Farming, lumbering, gathering, water collecting. This is a thing both on the PC and the Xbox, again from the videos and articles I’ve been reading recently.??

The one shard I have right now I got from fishing for example.

Fishing ?????? I hope you not talking about the ancient relic shards lol.  Im talking about Hard and Sharp Black Crystal Shards btw.

Yes. Hard and sharps. 

I got it from either fishing or lumber jacking.

Yea 100% sure it came from you wood cutting. I'm pretty sure it's not from fishing. ?

Yeah would have been from wood cutting. 

The afk water gathering is pretty handy for getting hards/sharps. Only problem is when you do get one it stops the auto gather so you still need to keep an eye.

They drop from water gathering on pc as Well so yeh. Good topic

Must be super low chances.

I did 350 river waters while at work post patch and I didn't get any.

I've heard the "Gravestone Golems" in the mediah rumbling lands area have higher chances. Gotta kill em then you can gather from them and it doesn't use tool durability

The downside of River AFK Gathering is that once you get one Shard your character does the "Cheer" animation and ceases further activity. 

Not sure 1 shard a night is worth not fishing

Oh!  Interesting. I just recorded the cheer when I got one last night pruning my crops. Lol 

Didnt dawn on me that would interrupt AFKing. Probably by design? ?

Same thing happens when your pet picks up a mark of shadows. You stop casting too.
