I understand the issue with full blown keyboard and mouse support with a majority controller player base on Xbox in terms of mechanical advantage.  However, a lot of players who will be seriously playing this game on console will be using a chat pad or USB keyboard for text.  Can we get better keyboard support for chatting only, to help the community thrive through communication like a real MMORPG does on PC?

Current Chat Process:

Menu button on Xbox controller to open chat

D-pad on Xbox controller to desired channel

X on Xbox controller to open on-screen keyboard

Type on USB keyboard

Start on controller to close on-screen keyboard

A on controller to send text

B on controller to close chat

Proposed USB keyboard supported chat process:

Enter on keyboard to open chat

Keyboard arrows to desired channel

Typing automatically registers in text bar

Enter to send message

ESC to close chat

This would not give a mechanical advantage in the sense of outperforming non keyboard users.  It would instead push everyone to use some sort of physical keyboard for Xbox and open of the flood gates of community chat that are gated behind a difficult to use chat system!

This would be a huge QoL improvement. I avoid using the chat function when I can and try to communicate with guild on discord instead because the text chat function is horrible even using a USB keyboard. I have seen older console mmo's have Enter to start text and Enter again to send so I mean its 2019 and this should be the norm for console text chat. Chat is vital in MMO's especially a game like this that is PvP driven and guild members need to be able to communicate quickly rather than having to press a load of buttons, type out message, then press more buttons to actually send.

As a chat pad user, I wholeheartedly agree with this suggestion.

I don't believe the BDO developers should be held responsible for controlling the internet, sorry.  Proper profanity filter? Sure.  Toxic actions?  Punishable.  But global chat is vital to MMOs... Lame toxic ppl in chats can expose themselves all they want.

It’s the worse possible experience. Actually it’s a tie with typing with TV controller. I agree with what you said, if you claim to be the best mmoo you should be caring about details that make a difference on player experience.

Agreed. I think we have one adult out of every 100 players in this game with the idiotic things said in chat. It's nothing but stupid nonsense and no monitoring is just bad.

I would be fine with chat if they allowed what nearly every other game does, allow us to decide what we see in our chat window. 95% of people would be turning world chat off
