It is majorly confusing right now. me and a mate were playing it last night and we were forced to take it in turns to cook the stuff for some missions. you cant see the ingrediants you need when in the cooking utensils ui.
to make it worse you put one of each ingrediant in THEN set the amount of each ingrediant.

Final nail in the ui coffin, once you know how to make the item although it appears in the ui list clicking on it does not put the ingrediants in....you have to do it again lol

This may be the only game I may need to use a pen and paper for...not good for sofa gaming lol

Edit: also no idea how you make somethings...mineral water? sugar? leaving agent?

How?
I had sugar in my inventory and tried on the ocean, clicked empty bottle and got sea water (which I could heat to salt...cool but the energy cost of collecting it is ludicrous lol)
I also tried in a river and cant remember the water name I got but heating it resulted in distilled water. both times the sugar wasnt used.

My main issue with the UI is that once you learn a recipie and click on it all it does is show you the ingrediants...you then have to back out of that to place the ingrediants in.....it should auto place them if you have them in your inventory or atleast stay open so you can see what ingrediants to use.

Definitely agree about auto-placing the items when you select a recipe from your known list.

I don't want to remember or have to check the amount of ingredients every time. Even in real life cooking you can have a recipe open while cooking. The game life skills should at least be as easy as real life versions ?

I remember on the PC version there is a way to auto-place as well.

Another note about the recipe list: we need a search filter. These lists get long, lets make this easy and enjoyable to use: search recipe, select it, then auto-place.

The thing about those recipes tho, is that some of them can be made differently. Like beer for example, 6 min water, 5 grain (potato, wheat, corn, etc.) 2 leavening, and 1 sugar is what your knowledge tells you. But if you experiment with higher lvl cooking skill, youll find that you can produce it with less ingredients, or different ones (like using 2-3 purified waters instead, removing a grain or two or using high quality grains) youre fail rate will fluctuate but it IS doable. The game encourages you to experiment and think, vrs just click and go brainlessly. Unless youre traveling of course...
