Talking about all skills in general, but my particular usage case would be Meteor Shower on Wizards for example.
I'd like to be able disable the keybinding for this spell (Back + RB/RT if I recall correctly, I'm not sitting in front of my Xbox to double check), but still be able to use it from the Ring Menu. Regardless, for this particular skill, the problem I have is accidentally casting it when I'm trying to cast something else that requires those buttons, and move and whatnot, then I get locked into a long animation and get pummeled. I'd like to have the option to only use the skill from the Ring Menu, thus ensuring that I never accidentally start casting it.
As it stands, locking a skill is all-or-nothing. I'd like to not have to lock the skill completely, just remove it from my button combos.
same case with the warrior's Spinning Slash, i wanna do it without using the rage gauge, but can't figure out a way..
the ring menu is crap its awkward to use and you end up pressing the wrong button sometimes which puts you in a self CC due to a random menu popping up

It's really nice if you take the time to get it set up in a way that is familiar and comfortable.

it really isn't in any way shape or form it will be way easier for us to set up our own button combos instead of holding left on the D pad then selecting what skill we want to use

if you are using the LT+ Dpad rings for active skills you are doing it wrong. just saying.
use the rings that are just Dpad up/down/left/right. it's literally just "press right, flick up with thumbstick" it takes like a quarter of a second to use a skill that way. not even that long.
i suppose it depends on what class you are playing and what skills need to be mapped to the ring menu.

i've been using the lt+dpad 4 slots as my 4 skill slots and using the up/down ring slots as my menu/fluff stuff but your method seems much easier to manage.. will try that out.
edit: the way he outlines is hands down the intended way the slots were supposed to be used. feels much better.

I use the LT+Dpad rings for non-combat menus like skill, inventory, Workers, etc.
the idea is to set it up so i have to use the Start Menu as little as possible.
only downside I am seen so far is that if you are sitting still on a horse and try to open one of those rings to open the map, your horse takes off in a full sprint. for that instance I use that start menu.
beyond that i really only use the Start menu for the few things you can't add to a ring.

yep ever since switching to that system you suggested it's been life changing.

how do you manage the pots?? especially in a PvP situation, you want to pot as fast as possible.. if you have only skills on the d-pad, then having pots on LT+d-pad is going to slow u down.

Here's how I do it. I'll use my Zerker for an example.
Left DPad - Combat Consumables. Mainly Health Potions. Main Health Potion is Up, other frequently used potions are Left/Right/Down, lesser used consumables are on the diagonals.
Right DPad - Class Skills (Fearsome Tyrant is Up, Wrath of Beast is Down, Everything else I put as I see fit.)
Up DPad - Either Corpse Storm or Rock Smash (on Wizard, this is Multiple Magic Arrows)
Down DPad - Whichever of Corpse Storm/Rock Smash is not on Up DPad. (on Wizard this is teleport)
my LT+DPad Rings are all different sets of menu items.
As far as Potions go, if I have more than one on my Consumables ring, I can use them near instantly by tapping Left DPad and Flicking the thumbstick Up/Down/Left/Right.
PSA: You don't need to wait for the ring to fully pop up to use the Skill/Consumable. tap the dpad then immediately flick the thumbstick in the direction of the consumable you want to use.
This has worked well for me so far. But I really don't like having to scroll through the Start Menu, and my rings are set up to avoid that as much as possible. for people who don't mind the start menu, they will have a lot more space on the rings to work with.
