What's everyone wearing using for headsets? I just picked a pair of Astro A40TR for the Xbox, has the plug in mixamp. Really love them so far and would recommend.

The A40s are a wonderful headset. I am cord-a-phobic so I have the later generation A50s with the upgraded faux leather ear cups and top band. They went through a rough patch with bugs for a while, but by far, I think Astros are the most comfortable and have the best mic of any headset on the market. I was a Turtle Beach fan before that switch.

I considered the A50s but I wanted my volume and mute down at my controller, which the A40s for Xbox have mixamp that plugs right into the controller, similar to the adapter. I was using the PDP AG9+, just got them 6 months ago and had no issues but I didn't like having the controls up on the headset. I keep my mic muted when running in a group, unless I have some smartass comment to make.
I still have my TB XOFours, which still sound and work great, just tired of moving them between rooms.

I will absolutely agree with you that, having owned the A40s previously, the controls crammed into the sides of the headset is the worse of the two configurations; The mix-amp is nice. I just really like the wireless part, so it's a tradeoff I made. The real fun thing about controls up top is when you are right in the middle of a conversation and you move your head against the couch and turn the headset off. Thats the same on any wireless pair though. I will say it happened MUCH more with the TB 800x. I returned those and switched to the A50. As far as the mute, a good feature of the A50 is muting when you move the mic-boom into the upright position. However, you have to be careful that it pops into the mute position, because I went to the bathroom in the middle of a Destiny raid once and broadcasted the whole thing because of that

Hey, there's worse things that can be broadcast. I read that you can mute the A40s the same way, by moving the mic up. True or no? But thanks for the tips, I'll keep that in mind. I will miss the wireless but at least the cable is hardwired into the mixamp so shouldn't unplug too easily, like my XO4s do.

I think, at least in the older gen A40s I had, there was not a flip-up mute feature. Its been few years though.
This Astro rep says no:

Yeah, I must have been confused, can't find where I thought I read that. Blame it on my old age.... On the other hand, the A40 has a removeable mic that can go on either side, lol.
I know Astro headsets aren't cheap but they are worth the investment, imo.

We are going to have to have that age contest someday. I am used to always being the oldest gamer in the group. Some have came close, but I usually win
Astro A40 TR Pro It's the king of kings. I love them.
Seems we are all users of fine headsets.

Just makes the games that much better.

I looked at those but when you got family n kids the surround sound is kinda pointless. I like the a40s cuz the open back let's me hear what's going on in the house.

Yeah I will say though I miss having the mute button on my controller super annoying to have to point the mic up to mute it lol

Yeah, got rid of my wireless set cuz of that. Hated having to take my hand off the controller.
Lenovo Y. cause i dont care for specs and only care about looks. plus it was hella cheap.
Sennheiser PXC480 for headphones and then a broken pair of Steelseries for a microphone (PC). Currently on Xbox I don't have a microphone, but I'll probably be getting some astros when I can find them here in Korea!

I have pair of Steelseries v2 as a spare but the jack connection is breaking, starting to crackle.
The left cup died in mine. Made playing games difficult so I grabbed the Sennheisers for a discount. Super comfortable and the noise canceling is awesome on a plane.
I'm using a beyerdynamic mmx 300 v2 with an astro mix amp. This is one of the best combos i've ever used

Simon, if they are in your price range, I highly recommend the A50s with the upgraded earpiece kit. The add-on kit makes a lot of different on background noise and comfort. I love mine. A40s ARE nice, but again, I am just a wireless junky. I literally get tangled in things with cords.
*Edit*
just a tip for the Astro users:
You can buy Lapel Microphone Windscreen kits for next to nothing on Amazon that more people use for Astro Boom Mics than actual Lapel Microphones.
Here are the ones I used:
