GM Notes [GM Note] PvP in the Desert
Black Desert 2019-09-24 09:00

Adventurers,

The Desert is a dangerous place filled with powerful monsters and harsh weather conditions, but probably the most dangerous feature of the desert are the other adventurers. Adventurers who choose to live life as outlaws will be able to thoroughly enjoy the near lawless world of the Desert. Even though the Desert may seem lawless, there is still order in the disorder, with people who forcefully kill other players being sent to Pila Ku, a chaotic prison in the desert. Those with negative Karma may enjoy the atmosphere of Muiquun, a town where only outlaws are welcomed with open arms.

Despite their best efforts, the prison has descended into chaos since Kayal Nesser escaped. There are still guards who attempt to stop people from leaving, but inside the Prison there is no control, and the wardens who are still inside have joined the prisoners in their hatred for the outside world.

Unlike the other regions, Valencia does not care about your previous heroics. If you kill an adventurer in the desert by forcing PvP on them, you will be marked as a villain for 30 minutes. This mark appears as a large sword next to your character name, and will be visible even if you are wearing a camouflage set. This mark will disappear after 30 minutes OR if you get sent to jail.

This villain mark will mean that any negative penalties that negative Karma players receive, will also apply to you. If you die in the desert with either negative Karma or the villain mark, you will be sent to the Pila Ku Jail.

All adventurers who are sent to jail will receive 2 debuffs. These debuffs will last for 30/50/60 minutes depending on your character’s Karma. While in jail, you will be unable to fight, your movement speed will be reduced by 50%, and you will be unable to escape using the escape function in the menu. You will also be unable to call your mount while suffering from these debuffs.

As you are defenceless in the jail, there will be no penalties for getting killed. You will also be unable to resurrect outside of the jail, but there is no cost to keep resurrecting inside the jail. Due to the severe restrictions, you will need to escape as soon as possible.

There are 3 ways of leaving the jail.

Serve Your Time

The first is to serve your time, become rehabilitated back into society and enjoy a life outside of the jail. Of course, this takes time, and most people will just want to leave the jail as quickly as possible.

Sneaky Sneaky

The first method is to sneak out of the jail without being detected by the guards. This can be quite challenging the first time you do it. Any warden that spots you as you try to make your escape will instantly attack, and can often deal terrible damage to the unarmed prisoner.

A Favor in Kind

Another method is to complete a quest given by the NPC next to the entrance of the Pila Ku Jail. By completing these quests, you will be able to remove your debuff and leave the jail early. Please remember that you will not be able to sneak out of the jail with the quest still active.

Once you manage to escape the jail, you will be moved to either Ibellab Oasis or Muiquun, depending on your Karma.

A town exists in the desert where outlaws are welcomed, and those on the straight and narrow are shunned. Muiquun was once a prosperous town, but was abandoned as the inhabitants left for new opportunities in the capital city once the oasis dried up. As the residents left, gangs seemingly moved in, and now the law of Muiquun reigns. There are 3 rules to follow in Muiquun, do not betray your fellow outlaws, have no guilt, and obey Kayal Nesser. These three rules have allowed the town of Muiquun to continue to prosper under vagabond laws.

Honor Amongst Thieves

Muiquun is the only safe zone available in the desert. Adventurers with negative Karma will be able to respawn here, and also enjoy every amenity it has to offer. The Muiquun guards will not bother you as long as your Karma is negative.

Those who have positive Karma will have a very different experience here. NPC’s will refuse to talk to you, guards will attack you and you will not be able to use any of the local amenities.

A new player killing system has been added to the Valencian Desert. Forcefully killing other players will still result in losing Karma, however other punishments have been changed. Please remember that all these changes only apply to the Desert, and once you leave the Desert, the punishment system of the other regions will apply.

First off, adventurers with negative Karma will still lose Magic Crystals and EXP if they die to monsters, but they will not lose any enhancement levels. This means that the punishment for dying in the desert with negative Karma is the same as those with positive Karma.

Negative Karma adventurers who die at the hands of NPCs and other adventurers will not lose Magic Crystals or EXP and will always resurrect in the Pila Ku Jail with the debuffs.

Areas where Desert punishments apply:

Red Desert, The Great Desert of Valencia, Cantusa Desert, Northern Sand Dune, Southern Sand Dune, Crescent Shrine, Titium Valley, Desert Naga Shrine, Aakman Temple, Hystria Ruins, Roud Sulfur Mine, Pila Ku Jail.

Unlike the other regions, Valencia doesn’t care about the amount of good that you do for the world, if you kill another adventurer in forced PvP you will be flagged as a villain. This means for 30 minutes, other players will be able to kill you regardless of your current force PvP setting.

The Desert penalties, such as heading to Pila Ku Jail when you die, will also be in effect for those who die whilst under the Villain effect. The mark will disappear after 30 minutes, or when you get sent to jail. Another thing to note is that the mark will not be removed if you leave the desert areas, so other players will be able to kill you outside of the desert.
