Mysterious Dark Rifts have appeared throughout the Black Desert world, and we need you to help seal them. 

What lies beyond the rift?

Dark Rifts appear randomly in Monster Zones. Once you interact with the Dark Rift, a powerful Boss will appear from within and it is up to you to take them out. The strength of the boss within the rift is based on the area that it appears in. If it appears in a relatively low level zone, the boss within will be weaker than if it spawns at a higher level area.

When can I start seeing Dark Rifts?  

You can start seeing Dark Rifts once the prerequisite quest has been completed. The prerequisite quest is [Awakening Complete] Memories of the Past. The Black Spirit will offer this quest to characters which have already completed their awakening quests, and once completed on one character, ALL subsequent characters will be able to see Dark Rifts around the map.

NOTE: Dark Rifts are not guaranteed spawns per day, so if you do not receive a Dark Rift but have completed the quest, please wait for them to appear. 

Finding Dark Rifts

As you explore Black Desert, occasionally a pop-up will appear which announces that a Dark Rift has opened. Once you receive this message, you will be able to check your world map in order to find the Dark Rift. On the map, you will be looking for a large purple and black sphere that indicates that the rift will be in that location.

Getting Down to Business 

Once you are prepared, it’s time to get down to business. Dark Rifts are a 1v1 fight between you and the enemy within. This means that once you open the Dark Rift, you will be unable to be attacked or even seen by other adventurers.

Once the boss appears, they can only see and attack you. This means that you must prepare before opening the rift, as once the boss is there he will not become distracted by other adventurers. Additionally there are no death penalties for dying against a Dark Rift boss, so jump in and get to grips with these powerful monsters. 

※ Bosses from the Dark Rift do not disappear after a period of time. 

※ Dark Rift bosses cannot be attacked during Conquest/Node War, so make sure that you are on a server without a war to engage the boss in combat. 

Rewards!

Once you have taken down the boss within the rift, it's time to loot. Dark Rift bosses drop a Box of the Dead, which allows you to get a random item, including accessories up to DUO.
