Adventurer's Guide

Knowledge

Knowledge

Knowledge is divided into big, medium and small categories.
Individual knowledge is included in the small category, and if you finish this category, it will increase your maximum energy.

For example, in Character (big category) > People of Eastern Balenos (medium category) > Residents of Velia (small category), if you collect all the knowledge of Velia Villagers, your energy will increase by 2!

Knowledge Grade

Knowledge can be acquired in a variety of ways and come in different grades.

As you obtain knowledge, not only can you increase your maximum energy, but depending on the type of knowledge you acquire, different effects will be made available.

Ecology knowledge is helpful for hunting and character knowledge is helpful when you have a conversations with NPCs. Trade knowledge will have a discount effect on trade goods. The higher the grade, the better the effects will be.

Ecology Knowledge is also graded in that different grades of knowledge are scored differently. If your score increases past set thresholds, then your Item Drop Rate will also increase!

You can delete knowledge through Annolisa Rosie at the Holy College of Calpheon.

▲ If you go to Annolisa Rosie at the Holy College of Calpheon, you can delete the acquired knowledge or use the completed small category to make a bookshelf with that knowledge.

▲You can delete knowledge by selecting a knowledge entry that you own from the knowledge management window. Deleting knowledge takes 10 energy.

Knowledge Categories

Knowledge is divided into 9 categories and each category has sub-sections in it. Depending on the category, the maximum amount of energy that can be obtained when completing sub-sections differs.

If you complete one of the sub-sections in Ecology (such as Imps or Harpy), you can create a bookshelf with that knowledge by talked to Annolisa Rosie at the Holy College of Calpheon. When creating the bookshelf, the random knowledge entries of the sub-section will be removed and placed into the bookshelf. You can obtain that knowledge again by defeating those monsters. The bookshelf created can be used 10 times with a cooldown of 1 hour. Bookshelves can be sold through the Central Market.

The characteristics of each knowledge category are as follows:

• Character: This knowledge is categorized by region and class.
You can get some knowledge by simply talking to the NPC, but some NPCs have pre-requisite knowledge conditions before you can obtain that specific one.
If you don’t have the pre-requisite knowledge, it will show up in the conversation as yellow letters.
There are some NPCs that allow you to acquire knowledge by fulfilling more difficult conditions.

• Topography: This knowledge is categorized by each territory.
You will automatically get Topography knowledge when you explore the region, but some of them can be obtained only when you talk with certain NPCs.
Knowledge obtained through NPCs sometimes require a certain amount of Amity, making them more difficult to obtain.

• Ecology: This knowledge is categorized by region and type of monster.
When you defeat monsters, you have a chance at obtaining knowledge regarding that specific monster. You can raise your chances at obtaining knowledge by having a pet that has the “Knowledge Gain Chance +” skill or by wearing Glasses, an item that can be purchased through the Pearl Shop (Apparel > Accessory).

▲ If you have Glasses or a pet with Knowledge Gain Chance + skill, getting the Ecology knowledge becomes easier.

• Adventure Journal: This knowledge is categorized by region and then areas.
Adventure Journal knowledge is obtainable as you adventure through the world of Black Desert, whether it is by talking to NPCs or by interacting with certain objects.

• Academics: This knowledge is categorized by topic.
You can obtain this knowledge by adventuring. While this may look similar to the Adventure Journal, the topics covered here are more based on the history of the world of Black Desert.

• Life Skill: This knowledge is categorized into different life skills and certificates.
When you perform life skills and obtain items, you can get knowledge regarding it. There are times when knowledge is obtained even when not obtaining an item

Keep in mind that Life Skill knowledge does not boost the maximum energy of your Characters when completing a sub-section.

• Trade: This knowledge is categorized by regional goods. You can acquire knowledge by pressing on the item after purchasing (therefore consuming it). Acquiring trade knowledge of an item will give you a permanent discount when buying that trade item.

• Learning the ropes of Black Desert: This knowledge is acquired by adventuring through the world of Black Desert and experiencing all the different content it has to offer. Much like Life Skill knowledge, completing sub-sections of the category will not increase the maximum amount of energy your Characters have.

Getting knowledge

You can look through your Knowledge window and see which ones you have obtained and which ones you haven’t. Knowledge that hasn’t been acquired yet will appear as question marks.

Knowledge acquisition is not determined by your level. For example, a level 10 Adventurer has the same chance to obtain knowledge as a level 62 Adventurer.

• NPC Chat: If you see a question mark on the mini-map or an exclamation mark above the head of an NPC, it means that character knowledge can be acquired. Some NPCs will give you a variety of knowledge just by chatting with them. Some knowledge consume energy or require a certain amount of Amity.

Other knowledge can be provided by nameless NPCs such as soldiers and villagers.

▲ Start a conversation when you see an exclamation mark!

These only show on the NPCs that you can have conversation with, and if you do not have a certain amount of knowledge about the NPC’s interest, you can’t have a conversation.

The interests are displayed when you interact with an NPC on the left side or within the conversation menu.

▲ You can’t start a conversation with NPC if you don’t have enough knowledge about their interests.

▲ You can gain Amity by fulfilling the conversation conditions.
